Abstract

1430439 Pneumatic conveyers A MEARS & CO Ltd 29 Nov 1974 [30 Nov 1973] 55747/73 Heading B8A A hopper for the reception of granular material comprises a conveying line along which material is carried by compressed air and a diaphragm in a wall of the hopper, pressure of material on which causes closure of a valve supplying the compressed air. In Fig. 2, material enters hopper 1 by pipeline 9, carried therealong by air entering line 9 at open end 22, from line 20. A diaphragm 10 in the wall of hopper 1 is arranged to operate control valve 19 such that when the pressure of the material on the diaphragm exceeds a predetermined amount, valve 25 operates to close the line 20 at port 27, thus preventing passage of compressed air to line 9 and so stopping conveyance of material. The carrying air is filtered off at 5, and hopper 1 may be arranged above a second hopper. As pressure on diaphragm 10 decreases due to emptying of hopper 1, line 20 is opened again and conveyance of material recommences.
