Abstract

1372698 Automatic control of temperature HEATING EQUIPMENT Ltd 21 Dec 1971 [22 Dec 1970] 60893/70 Heading G3R [Also in Division F4 and H2] In a water boiler, when water in a vessel 1 Fig.1, reaches boiling point steam will be generated at such a rate that it passes through apertures 8, 9 with such velocity that it impinges on a thermostat 10 in a compartment 7 which thermostat accordingly operates a switch 11 of an electric immersion heater 2 cutting the heater off. Steam produced prior to boiling point will not operate the thermostat but will pass mostly via passage 8, to a compartment 6 and is vented to atmosphere through a perforated cover at the upper end thereof. The frequency at which the thermostat cuts-on and cuts off the heater depends upon the differential temperature at which it is set, the water being maintained at or about its boiling point. Alternatively the thermostat may control the supply of gas in the case of a gas-fired boiler.
