Abstract

1372551 Folding chairs R J SEARLE 13 Jul 1972 [19 July 1971] 33841/71 Heading A4J In a folding chair in which the back supporting frame 1, 2 and seat supporting frame 4, 5 are crossed when in the unfolded position and parallel when in the folded position, the two frames are inter-connected by parallel rods 7, 8 which are rigidly connected to the seat supporting frame and pivotally connected to the back supporting frame such that when the chair is folded the two frames are spaced apart in order to accommodate the seat and back cushions 6, 3 therebetween. The rods 7, 8 may be rigid with the back supporting frame and pivoted to the seat supporting frame or formed in two pivotally inter-connected parts, one part of each rod being rigid with the seat supporting frame and the other part being rigid with the back supporting frame. The upper ends of the seat supporting frame may be slidably secured to the under surface of the seat cushion which is provided with two rods 9 rigid with the seat cushion and pivotally connected to the back supporting frame such that on folding of the chair the upper ends of the seat supporting frame slide rearwardly and the seat is rotated about the pivotal connection of the rods 9 with the back supporting frame.
