Abstract

1372397 Rolling metals MOELLER & NEUMANN GmbH 23 Nov 1971 [28 Dec 1970] 54376/71 Heading B3M [Also in Division B8] A cooling bed for rolled material includes a support grating 10 which is'movable relative to a fixed grating 20, the grating 10 being movable both horizontally and vertically by a single drive shaft 30 which carries cams 32 and 40. The grating 10 comprises supporting bars 11 carried on beams 13 and posts 15, whereas the grating 20 comprises bars 21 mounted on fixed posts 22. To move the beams 13, and hence the grating 10, horizontally, a roller 36 carried by a post 34 co-operates with a cam track 32a of the cam 32. To move the grating vertically, the cam 40 engages rollers 42 supported on the ends of push rods 44 and 52, the rods co-operating at each end with inclined ramps 47, 43, 51 and 55 so that horizontal movement of the rods is transmitted into vertical movement of the grating. A set of rollers is arranged at each end of each rod so that the posts 15 can move horizontally on one roller, while two further rollers independently co-operate with a ramp to produce vertical movement. The path of movement of the grating 10 may be as shown in Fig. 4, but it can readily be modified by changing the cam profiles. By inclining one set of bars 11, the weight of the bars can be used to urge the roller 36 against the cam 32, and a cam track can be dispensed with.
