Abstract

1371617 Sintering green metal strip by induced current BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 24 March 1972 [31 March 1971] 8323/71 Heading C7D Rolled green metal strip or sheet e.g. Fe or Fe alloy such as stainless steel is passed through a furnace where it is sintered by induced alternating current, a part of the strip at the start of heating being covered with a contacting metal layer. The green strip 36 is transported on endless belt 12 via gas tight roller seals 9 through induction furnace 1 operating at 400K-10M Hertz, through cooling section 2 and gas tight seals 10 to coiler 20. Hydrogen is introduced at 11 and a Cu sheet or mesh is placed on the leading edge of the green strip before it enters the furnace. The strip may be hot rolled between the furnace 1 and the cooler 2 and also between the cooler and the coiler.
