Abstract

1369238 Rope terminal BRITISH ROPES Ltd 14 June 1972 [2 July 1971] 31026/71 Heading D1T A metal terminal on a wire rope includes a hollow shank reduced to grip the rope and a bearing surface located on a collar which does not grip the rope and positioned so that when bearing a rope-tensioning load the shank is compressed longitudinally. As shown, Figure 1, the terminal has a shank 1 swaged onto rope 14 and a collar 5 not gripping the rope and having bearing surface 17. The collar and groove 3 may be formed when the terminal blank is swaged onto the rope. The collar may be locally heat treated. The terminal may be received, Figure 3, in a recess 16 in a socket 12 forming an anchorage or swivel, the surface 17 when loaded abutting similarlyshaped socket surface 18. Socket slot 13 allows the terminal to enter the recess. Surface 17 may be of frusto-conical or curved shape. The collar may be rectangular to prevent it swivelling in the recess. The collar may alternatively be located between two shanks both swaged onto the wire. The collars of two terminals may be abutted end-to-end within a socket to form a rope connector.
