Abstract
1368020 Blast furnace throat armour; confining dust GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE AG 20 Sept 1972 [21 Sept 1971] 43551/72 Headings F4B and F4X [Also in Division F2] The passage of dust along an operating rod 14 between a member in a dust laden atmosphere and the driving mechanism, particularly an operating member for the throat armour of a blast furnace, is prevented by a slide plate 20 having a central aperture fitting closely around the rod but allowing it to move longitudinally, to swivel and to move transversely to a limited extent, at least part of the slide plate moving in a slot formed between two fixed plates 18, 19, one of which closes the space around the driving mechanism save for an aperture 22 through which the rod passes. The edge of the hole in the slide plate is rounded to a radius of less than 20% of the rod thickness, and the slide plate may be guided in slots formed between the closure plate 18 and angle members 19 secured to the plate 18 at the top and bottom of a rectangular box member 17, and extending through the furnace lining. The slide plate 20 may be formed of two sections bolted together.
