1367628 Cushions & c DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 8 Dec 1971 [10 Dec 1970] 58697/70 Heading A4M A lumber support comprises a base-plate 14 to which wings 12, 13 are hinged, at 19, 20, and are supported, at an angle to the base-plate 14 firstly by webbing 31 secured at its ends to the wings 12, 13 and passing beneath elasticated webbing 32 secured to the base-plate 14, secondly by webbing 25 secured to one wing 13, at 26, the webbing 25 passing through slots 27, 28 in a stiffening plate 15 secured to the base-plate14 and being bowed or channeled to receive the webbing 25 and being secured to a sliding block 22 of an adjusting device, and thirdly webbing 29 secured to the block 22 and the base-plate 14, the adjusting device comprising a housing 21 for the block 22, the latter being threaded on a rod 23 with a knurled knob 24. The arrangement is such that adjustment of the knob 24 simultaneously varies the thickness as defined between the webbing 32 and the base-plate 14 and the inclination of the wings 12, 13 and hence the degree of lateral support afforded to the user. The tension in the webbing 32 is thus variable. The support may be secured to a seat by straps.
