Abstract

1437997 Surveying apparatus W P O'DAY 30 Oct 1974 [13 Nov 1973] 52604/73 Heading G1F In order to indicate a desired ground level, e.g. of motorway banking, apparatus 14 is provided comprising an elongate body member 16 having a longitudinal graduated scale 18, clamping means 24, e.g. comprising clips 26, 32 joined by straps 38, for releasable engagement with a stake 10 which has been driven into the ground such that the body member and stake are in end-to-end relation, and a cross-piece 40 mounted on and adjustable longitudinally of the body member by means of a bracket (42), Fig. 2 (not shown), to indicate the height of desired ground level above the present ground level. As shown the cross-piece 40 is also pivotally adjustable, its angle of adjustment being determined by a spirit level 50 pivotally mounted in a housing 48 and having a pointer 52 movable relative to an arcuate scale 56 on the housing. The cross-piece 40 in this case can also be set to the required angle, e.g. the batter rail angle, of the desired ground level. The body member 16 may have at least one telescopic extension 20.
