Abstract

1367412 Finishing fabrics T W RILEY (ROCHDALE) Ltd 27 July 1973 [29 April 1972] 11923/72 Heading D1S A fabric raising machine comprises a rotatable drum 10 having a plurality of cord rollers 11 clad with card clothing 13 on the periphery of the drum 10, each roller 11 being rotatable and at least one roller 11 being axially reciprocable relative to the drum 10. Adjacent rollers 11 are rotatable in opposite directions. Preferably, all of the rollers 11 are reciprocable and are arranged so that adjacent rollers move in opposite directions so that their reciprocations are spaced apart by half a phase. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, each roller 11 has an end spigot carrying an annular cam follower 16 formed with a raised area 17. A fixed cam 18 has a protrusion 21 so that the roller 11 is moved axially when the area 17 rides over the protrusion 21. A pulley 15 is keyed to an end spigot 12 so that the roller 11 can move axially without shifting the pulley. In a modification (not shown), alternate rollers are gauged so as to be responsive to a single cam arrangement. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, a worm gear 30 is mounted on the shaft of each roller 11 and is engaged by a gear wheel 31 rotatable about an eccentric point 32 to reciprocate the roller. In a further embodiment (not shown), an extension of the roller forms the plunger of a solenoid the current supply to the winding of which is regularly switched in polarity to effect reciprocation.
