1380224 Knitting; yarn feeding ELITEXZAVODY TEXTILNIHO STROJIRENSTVI GENERALNI REDITELSTVI 19 April 1973 [26 April 1972] 18907/73 Heading D1C In positive yarn feeding the yarn passes in an S shaped path round two rollers 21 which do not touch (Fig. 1) the roller driving the other through gears 24. To vary the feeding speed with knitting density in a circular knitting machine a rod 12 is moved lengthwise as the needle cylinder changes height. A friction driven disc 2 on the rod then moves across the face of a driving disc 3 to alter the gear ratio, and thus the speed of the rollers 21. To stop feeding, one roller may be swung in an arc round the other so that the yarn's S shaped path becomes straight (Fig. 3, not shown), the yarn then passing between the rollers but not touching either of them. In other embodiments (i) two rollers are in contact (Fig. 5) pinching the yarn between them, one roller also being in contact with and driven by the disc 3; (ii) in a multifeed device (Fig. 6) a shaft 18 is driven by the disc 3, and a plurality of rollers 20 may be moved into contact with the shaft independently, each roller feeding a yarn independently.
