1366681 Roll straightening machine WYKO EQUIPMENTS Ltd 13 April 1972 [30 April 1971] 12332/71 Heading B3M A straightening machine, such as a skew rolling mill for straightening cylindrical or non- circular rods or tubes, includes three pairs of upper and a lower rolls between which a workpiece passes, a pressure sensor and an indicator being associated with one of the centre pair of rolls for measuring the pressure applied by the roll on the workpiece. In an example, an hydraulic sensor is associated with each of the lower rolls 15, 17 and 19 of a six-roll straightener. All of the rolls are angularly adjustable, and all of them (or just the upper ones) are vertically adjustable. Each sensor, Fig. 2, includes an outer ring 24 carried on a fixed support (or vertically movable pillar) 22, an inner plunger 25 connected to a support 17a of a roll, and a rubber member 26 connecting the parts 24 and 25. As the pressure on the roll and support increase, the plunger 25 is urged downwardly to compress a fluid in the space 28, an indicator being connected to the space to monitor the roll pressure. Screwed members 29 and 29a may be rotated to make the sensor inoperative, if desired. The sensors may be electrical instead of hydraulic and a sensor may be associated with each of the upper and lower rolls (Fig. 3, not shown).
