1366668 Laying free thread commencements W REINERS VERWALTUNGS GmbH 24 Sept 1971 [29 Sept 1970] 44595/71 Heading D1J A device for seeking out and laying free the thread commencement on the periphery of a cop has means 2 for moving the cops 3 along a path aligned with the nip between a pair of rolls 8 such that a thread end can be pulled downwardly off the cop by said rolls, there being air blowing means for initially freeing the thread from the cop and a thread gripper arm 12 that swings in the direction of travel of the cop to move said thread end away from rubbing engagement with the surface of the cop, that is to say from the dot-and-dash line of Fig. 1 to the full line setting. The gripper arm 12 can be swung about its pivot 14 by the cop itself or by engagement with means carried by the conveyor 2. The thread gripper 12 also possesses a lever arm 18 which, through a link rod 19, opens and closes a slider 21 of a suction nozzle 20 that receives and holds a lifted-away thread piece. Scissors 22, 23 cut the thread.
