Abstract

1364767 Self-priming centrifugal pumps G VOLLAND 26 Sept 1972 [2 Oct 1971] 44432/72 Heading F1C In a self-priming centrifugal pump comprising a deflector nose 6 projecting inwardly from the peripherel wall of the upstream end of the volute casing 1 towards the periphery of the impeller 3 so as to produce a self-priming recirculation of liquid through the impeller, the nose 6 is located adjacent and downstream of the cutwater 1a and is arranged to yield elastically in a direction radial to the impeller axis to permit the passage of solids contained in the liquid. The nose 6 may be a hollow body of rubber attached to a plate 7 which is bolted to the casing 1 so as to close an opening 5 through which the nose projects. The flat plate 7 may be replaced by an inwardly dished plate when the impeller 3 is replaced by an impeller of smaller diameter.
