Abstract

1364570 Multiple silos INSTITUTUL DE CERCETARI SI PROIECTARI ALIMENTARE 28 Sept 1971 45196/71 Heading B8S [Also in Division E1] A prestressed concrete structure for silos, bunkers or tanks, comprises a plurality of polygonal cells arranged around one or more central polygonal cells such that cell walls meeting in pairs at points forming external corners of the assembly lie on a circle and are joined by vertical ribs, while other cell walls meet in threes internally of the assembly and are supported by piers. The assembly is then encircled by tensioned cables, each of which extends halfway round the structure. The cables are anchored in groups on anchorages forming part of some of the vertical ribs. In the Figures, anchorages are formed on ribs marked A, the cells are regular hexagons supported by piers 5 which are housed in a basement 8 and tensioned cables 10 pre-stress the structure.
