Abstract

1395977 Dome-shaped buildings R C ROBERTSON and G V FRANCIS 16 Oct 1972 [28 Aug 1972] 47631/72 Heading E1A A domed structure comprises at least three vertically disposed arches 12 which are interconnected at their apices 14 by a horizontal ring 11 to define therewith a series of spherical triangular shaped frame sections 16 having re-inforcing members to transfer the load from the ring 11 to the anchorage points 13 of the arches. The dome is re-inforced by ribs 19 and studs 18, the former meeting at a cap 20. The structure may have curved doors 30 sliding in tracks and a series of such structures may be interconnected along their arch members 11 to form a compound building, see for example Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). The structure may be glazed with plastics sheeting and provided with condensation discharge channels, see also Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown).
