Abstract

1363244 Reflectors SILVAN R SHEMITZ & ASSOCIATES Inc 3 Sept 1971 [3 Sept 1970] 41233/71 Heading F4R A concave reflector for producing constant magnitude of illumination over a plane surface 33 comprises a parabolic section 13 and an elliptical section 15, the first focal point F 1 of section 15 lying on the axis 37 of section 13, the second focal point F 2 lying outside a closure formed by the sections 13 and 15 and a plane PP<SP>1</SP> extending across the outward edges of the sections, the axis 37 lying between 45 and 90 degrees from the nadir, and the major axis of section 15 being between 5 and 45 degrees from the nadir. The light source 27 is placed at F 1 , and plane reflectors 19, 21 may be used to produce illumination from nadir to 65 degrees. A reflector 17 of general curvature may be placed between sections 13 and 15, and gaps 23, 25, 26 may be used for convection cooling. In an alternative embodiment, a further parabolic reflector may be used, together with rearranged plane reflectors. The source 27 may be a gaseous discharge lamp or a halogen lamp, the reflectors being of glass, aluminium or stainless steel.
