1361654 Rolling mills SCHLOEMANN AG 11 Oct 1971 [10 Oct 1970] 47145/71 Heading B3M A roll-changing assembly, for a rolling mill having two spaced housings 1 in which the chocks 2 of a roll 3, and spacers 5 and 6 are located, is able simultaneously to remove both the chocks and spacers from the housings. The assembly comprises two trolleys 8 (Figs. 1 and 2), one associated with each housing, which are linked together by beams 10 and which run on a pair of parallel rails 7 (Fig. 3, not shown) passing into the housings 1. Associated with the right-hand trolley 8 (Fig. 2) is a hook 27 for engaging the spacer 6. To remove the chocks and spacers, the chocks are raised in the housings, and the trolleys 8 are pushed by a piston-rod 11 beneath the chocks. The chocks are lowered on to the trolleys and can simply be withdrawn along the rails 7. Before the trolleys are withdrawn, however, the hook 27 can be engaged with an abutment 23 of the spacer 6. When the trolleys are withdrawn, the spacer 6 is drawn along a crosspiece 4 (which connects the two roll housings) and pushes the other spacer 5 out of the housings. The two spacers are deposited on a carriage 30 (Fig. 1) when the chocks are clear of the housings. The carriage is movable transversely of the cross piece 4 (Fig. 4, not shown) to position a replacement set of spacers in alignment with the cross piece. The hook 27 is used to push one replacement spacer in position, whereas an abutment 29 associated with the left-hand trolley 8 pushes the other in position. A limit switch 22 and a pivotable roller 20 control the engagement of the trolleys with a hook on the end of the rod 11.
