Abstract

1359162 Dip-moulded rubber DUNLOP Ltd 29 Feb 1972 [17 March 1971] 7340/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division B2] A method of coating a substrate layer on a former with a gelled rubber latex, comprising subjecting the layer to a hot fluid to heat the layer, and then bringing the heated layer into contact with a heat-sensitized rubber latex, the temperature of the layer being sufficient to gel the latex. The former may be porcelain and glove-shaped. The substrate layer may be a fabric stitched in the form of a glove lining or may be made by immersing the heated former in a latex to form a gelled latex layer. The layer may be steam heated or preferably dipped in hot water to be heated to a temperature 60 to 75‹ C. above the gelling temperature of a heatsensitized latex dispersion in which the layer is subsequently dipped at least in part. The gelled heat-sensitized latex is then dried and cured and the so formed article stripped from the former. Heat sensitizing agents mentioned are polyvinylmethyl ether and polyoxypropylene glycol.
