Abstract
135,879. Binns, W., and Mander, J. D. July 4, 1918. Doffing-arrangements; spindle apparatus.-In arrangements applicable to cap spinning-frames in which the devices for removing the full bobbins and replacing them by empty bobbins are pivoted on the frame, so that during spinning the devices lie below the spindles, and the devices adapted to receive the full bobbins and to carry the empty bobbins are rotatable about a subsidiary axis mounted on the dotling-mechanism, the mechanism comprises forks to engage the caps mounted on hinged arms adapted to move through 180 degrees, a series of bobbin clips and bobbin trays mounted on arms having a similar movement, and means to move the mechanism vertically to effect the necessary operations. The doffing-mechanism is carried by brackets 6, Fig. 1, mounted on a frame 4 secured to the spinning-frame. A rack 8 gearing with a pinion 7 in the bracket carries a shaft 9 on which is mounted arms 10, 11. The arm 10 carries a fork 12 to engage the cap 3. The arm 11 carries a subsidiary axis 16 carrying the clips 17 to engage the full bobbin and a tray 18 to carry the empty bobbin. The arms 10, 11 are connected by a lost-motion arrangement, so that the arm 10, when rotated, moves first independently and then carries the arm 11 with it. In doffing, the arms 10, 11 are first swung about their shafts into the positions 10, 11 to cause the clip 17 to engage the full bobbin and the fork 12 to engage the cap. The rack 8 is then raised to lift the arms into the positions 10<c>, 11<c>. The subsidiary axis 16 is then rotated to place the empty bobbins above the spindles, and the rack 8 then lowered. In a modified arrangement, the arm carrying the fork for engaging the cap is mounted on a shaft carried at the end of the arm carrying the full-bobbin clip and the tray for the empty bobbin. The former arm is operated by a lostmotion arrangement so that it moves with the latter arm through substantially 180 degrees and is then itself rotated through about 180 degrees. In a further modification, a bracket 40, Fig. 6, carries an arm 43 at the end of which is a spindle 45 carrying the clip 47 and tray 48. The arm 49 carrying the cap fork 50 is pivoted to the arm 43 at 51. The arm 43 is rotated by gearing 46, 42. To maintain the load on the shaft 41 constant, a spring cable 52 passes over a drum 53 moving about the axis of a shaft 54, from which the gear-wheel 55, which operates the shaft 41, is driven, The spindle rail may be moved horizontally before doffing, and the spindles may be lowered. An arm carrying full-bobbin clips and empty-bobbin trays mounted on a pivoted bracket, the arm being adapted to be swung through about 180 degrees, may be applied to a ring spinning- frame. The bobbins may be provided with driving-cheeks 61, 62, Fig. 10, which engage with the pins on the spindle.
