Abstract

930,824. Doffing and donning in ring spinning machines. ALGEMENE KUNSTZIJDE UNIE N.V. April 19, 1960 [April 17, 1959], No. 13694/60. Class 120 (2). In a ring twisting machine in which the ring rail 1 together with its rings 2 are normally traversed by the movement of a builder cam 26 revolving about a shaft 27, the linkage being a cam follower 25 on a pivoted arm 17, a chain 15, a crank 9, 11, a roller 7 and a push rod 5, a further cam 28 is provided which, as shown in Fig. 2, may override the influence of cam 26 and move the ring rail beyond its normal range of traversing. Cam 28 in its rest position has its shortest radius towards its associated follower 24, all the radii of cam 26 being greater than this so that builder cam 26 may normally continuously contact its follower 25. When the cap tubes on the spindles are full, a motor 33 is manually switched on to rotate cam 28 in an anticlockwise direction. After about one third of a revolution cam 28 having engaged its follower 24 and lifted arm 17 out of engagement with builder cam 26, has pushed arm 17 and therefore the ring rail 1 to their lowest positions and at this point cam 28 is automatically stopped. The rings 2 are now in line with auxiliary surfaces in the spindles on to which the yarn is wound for a few moments until the whole machine is manually switched off. The full tubes are then doffed and empty ones donned, the yarn remaining threaded to the auxiliary surface. The whole machine and the motor 33 are then started. Because of the shape of cam 28, the rings 2 first move away from the auxiliary winding surface; they then pause to wind transfer tail on the tubes; finally they rise until builder cam 26 contacts its follower 25 and normal traversing is resumed. Cam 28 now out of contact with follower 24 continues to rotate until its shortest radius is again towards its follower; motor 33 is then automatically switched off. For disturbances such as thread breakage the ring 2 at the associated spindle may be disconnected from the ring rail 1 and lowered on a guide 4 to a position adjacent its auxiliary winding surface so as to be re-threaded. The described machine may follow some other processing such as the stretching of artificial fibres.
