Abstract

Apparatus for donning and doffing a flyerframe comprises an assembly which can be moved towards and away from the frame in a direction transverse to the axes of rotation of the flyers and adapted to remove the full bobbins and replace them with empty ones; the assembly has means to grip the bobbins at both ends and for releasing the bobbins from their rotational positions in the flyers. The assembly is mounted in a carriage which runs on rails along the frame, means being provided to stop the carriage at fixed places. The assembly is moved to and from the frame on guide bars and can be moved vertically on guide-bars by a rack 27 Fig. 5, (not shown), when a meshing pinion 39 is rotated towards a carrier 49 to which the doffed bobbins are transferred and which carries a supply of empty bobbins. The assembly deals with four spindles at a time, and for each spindle has upper and lower grippers in the form of tongs opened and shut when a cam is rotated. For each spindle, also, it has a bar 22 which can be advanced to separate the bobbins from their associated spindles. At the end of a set, the flyers stop in a position which does not hinder the transverse withdrawal of the bobbins. The assembly is advanced, so that the tongs can grip the bobbins. To separate the bobbins from their flyers, the bars 22 are advanced so that their inclined ends 42 engage and lift the members which couple the bobbins to their flyers: to separate the bobbins from their spindles, cams act on the bobbin-grippers to lift the bobbins. The assembly is now retracted to bring the bobbins beneath the carrier 49 and are raised by rotating pinion 39 so that the bobbins are forced on to holders in hangers similar to those used in the creel of the associated spinning frame. The grippers are released and the assembly retracted slightly to await movement of the carrier to bring empty bobbins in line with the grippers. (The empty bobbins are arranged alternately with holders for the filled bobbins). The assembly advances, the grippers grip the empty bobbins; the assembly rises slightly to detach the bobbins and descends to its original position whereafter the assembly advances to don the empty bobbins. The movement of the assembly is produced by hydraulic or mechanical means under the control limit switches or programming means.
