Abstract

152,769. Bairstow, J., and Barrett, J. R. July 21, 1919. Doffing - arrangements; spindle apparatus; spindle and lifting rails.-In cap and ring spinning and like frames, the tubes, in the case of cap frames, and the upper portions of the spindles, in the case of ring frames, are supported separately from their wharls by a rail, which is normally mounted on the lifter or spindle rail and is removed therefrom when the bobbins are full and replaced by a similar rail carrying tubes or upper portions of spindles with empty bobbins mounted thereon. Figs. 5 and 6 show respectively the arrangement of a cap and a ring spindle; the wharls 10 are mounted on the lifter rail 8 and the spindle rail 6, and the tubes 9 and upper parts of spindles in bearings on rails 11. The tubes and spindles are coupled to the wharls by depending pegs 9, 28, which engage with corresponding spring-pegs 10 on the wharls. When the bobbins are full, the caps are secured by holders 4, the spindle rail is lowered and the rail 11 is engaged by a rack 18, which is moved horizontally to deposit it up on a rail 13 carried by a rack 13 which is raised and lowered by a pinion 19. In ring frames, the ring rail is raised to the position shown in full lines and the spindle rail is slightly lowered to effect the doffing. The pinion 19 is operated to lower the bar 13 and simultaneously to raise a similar bar 14 so as to bring the tubes or spindle on rail 11 into position to be received by the rack 18, which is then withdrawn and the lifter or spindle rail raised to connect the wharls with the tubes or spindles. The racks carrying the bars 13, 14 are hollow and engage guide bars 13, 14b and brackets 14<c>. A wire 21 connected to counter-balanced levers 22, 23, pivoted on the framework is operated to guide the thread against the flange of the tube, as shown in Fig. 2, to facilitate the commencement of winding and to sever it. When not required the levers are turned into the position shown in Fig. 1. In Provisional Specification it is stated that the tubes may be coupled to the wharls bv centrifugally-acting hinged devices.
