Abstract

216,183. Stell, A., Stell, J., and Welch, H. Feb. 17, 1923. Doffing-arrangements; threadholding and thread-severing arrangements. - In cap spinning, twisting, doubling, and like machines, the bobbinholders are mounted on a horizontal rack 25 slidable on a vertical rack 20 and are so operated that, after the caps are removed by the holders 2 and the spindles are lowered, the empty bobbins are placed upon the spindles above the full bobbins and are retained within the caps by supports 44, after the caps are returned to their normal position and the spindles raised; the spindles are again lowered to allow the caps and empty bobbins to be withdrawn, and the holders are operated to remove the full bobbins from the spindles. The bobbin holders comprise parts 18, 18<a>, mounted on bars 19, 19<a>, of which the bar 19<a> is movable relatively to the bar 19 so that a flange d on the part 18<a> may support or release a bobbin. A bar 33 slidable in arms 32 on a rotatable shaft 31 carries pins 34 and is operated so that the yarn is engaged thereby, as shown in Fig. 4, and is caught by notches in the wharls and broken upon restarting. The Provisional Specification describes a sliding and rotarv rod mounted on the lifter rail and provided with projections to engage the yarn and carry it into contact with the serrated edge of the wharl, whereby it is broken; a thread holding device comprising two rails mounted on arms so that they may be disposed one above and the other below the lifter rail to secure the yarns; and bobbin holders provided with flanges held in position by spring bearings and with dagger pins to engage the bobbins.
