Doffing - arrangements; spindle apparatus. - In doffing - apparatus for spinning, twisting, slubbing, roving and like machines of the kind in which the cap-holder is moved horizontally and also supports the full and empty during their transference, the full and empty bobbins are simultaneously raised from the spinning-spindles 9 and spindles 23 on a rotary bar 17 to holders 26, 25 mounted with the cap-holder on a rack 14, which is moved so as to position the full and empty bobbins in turn over the spindles 23, 9 respectively upon which they are deposited by moving the holders 25, 26 horizontally. The bar 17 is moved horizontally and turned so that the yarn, which is also engaged by fingers on the holders 25, is wrapped around the tubes and is nipped in notches between the tubes and the driving-dogs on the wharls by the empty bobbins, as shown in Fig. 6. The full bobbins are prevented from rotating by means of pins so that the yarn is broken upon restarting. Spring catches 29 may be provided to retain the full bobbins on the spindles 23. The bar 17 is turned so that the spindles 23 project vertically downwards during spinning and is locked in this position by a spring-catch. The caps are gapped at 16 to engage the holders and may be secured to the spindles by means of a metal strip 40, Fig. 11, which engages a flat on the spindle. The gap 16 prevents the creation of air pressure in the cap and thereby tends to prevent fluffing of the yarn.
