Abstract
202,349. Alderman, E. R. March 20, 1922. Doffing arrangements.-In cap spinning- machines the caps are supported for doffing purposes by pivoted holders 64 and are steadied by plates 52 engaging their upper ends, and the bobbins are supported as required during the operations by swinging hook members 74. A frame 78 is provided with full and empty bobbin pockets 80, 82, Fig. 5, and is reciprocated laterally to register with the spindles, the necessary vertical and horizontal movements for doffing and donning the full and empty bobbins being effected by racks 102, 92. Bobbin setters comprising arms 132 are mounted on a pivoted shaft 138 and provided with friction pads 136, Fig. 6, so that when the shaft 138 is operated they turn the empty bobbins slightly to bring them into driving contact with the wharl. The cap supports are mounted on a reciprocable rail 42 which is advanced to a position above the spindles, and the spindle rail and lifting rail are operated so as to enter the caps into the plates 52. The supports 64, which are slotted so as to clear the bobbins, are operated to engage the lower edges of the cap, as shown, and are latched in that position. The rail 42 is withdrawn and the lifter rail is lowered, as shown in Fig. 7, to permit the frame 78 to effect the doffing and donning of full and empty bobbins, which are supported as required by the members 74.
