Abstract
301,619. Wademan, J., Wademan, W., and Wademan, W. Nov. 3, 1927. Doffing - arrangements; thread-severing arrangements; spindle and lifting rails. - In spinning, twisting, and like machines, more particularly those of the flyer type, two bars 1 are arranged and adapted to engage within bobbin carriers 2 and to be moved by a horizontal rack bar 8 to remove the full bobbins and replace them by empty bobbins. During spinning the bar 1 to receive the full bobbins is supported by the spindle rail 5, as shown in Fig. 1, so that when the spindle, rail is lowered after completion of the set it is received in a recess in the rack bar, as shown in Fig. 2, which is then advanced so that the bar 1 enters the bobbin carriers 2, which are of bifurcated construction as shown, and carries them with the full bobbins beyond dead spindles 6. The other bar 1, with the empty bobbins mounted thereon, is then raised by the spindles 6 beyond the rack bar and lowered again so that it passes a hinged member 11 on the rack bar and is then seated thereon. The dead spindles 6 and the lifter rail 7 are lowered, the rack bar 3 being withdrawn so that the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 4. and are then raised simultaneously so as to support the full and empty bobbins and thereby to allow further withdrawal of the rack bar 3 to a position wherein the bar 1 which supported the empty bobbins is received in the recess of the rack bar when the lifter rail 7 is lowered. The rack bar is still further withdrawn so that when the spindle rail 5 is raised to its normal operative position the bar 1 is also carried thereby into the position shown in Fig. 1. During these operations the spindles are locked by a transverse bars 17 carried horizontally by a movable member 16. The spindle rail 5 is supported by spindles 18, Fig. 7, carrying arms 22 connected by chains to a differential pulley 24 loose on a shaft 25 and is balanced by a weight 28; it may be raised and lowered by a pinion 29 on a shaft 15 and a rack, or the pulley 24 may be fast on the shaft 25 and operated by suitable gearing. The spindles 6 are operated by a chain wheel and shaft 13., and the lifter rail 7 raised simultaneously therewith by a dog 12; the lifter rail 7 may be connected to the dog so that it may be raised and lowered with the spindle 6 during doffing; in place of the chain mechanism and shaft 13 rack and pinion mechanism may be used to operate the spindles 6. The yarn-severing mechanism is preferably mounted on the underside of the lifter rail 7, and comprises a notched rod 30, Fig. 9, and a co-operating U-shaped plate 31, the yam being engaged and held during this process by a rotatable and sliding rod 33 provided with hooks 34.
