Abstract

252,423. Stell, A., Stell, J., and Welch, H. Jan. 28, 1925. Doffing-arrangements; thread-severing arrangements; lifting-rails; spindle apparatus.-In flyer spinning and like machines the drag washers 3, Fig. 11, are mounted in holders and the lifting- rail is moved lengthwise during the doffing operations so as to allow a bobbin support 8 to be inserted in the space between the flange of the bobbin and the lifting-rail; a rod 20 is arranged in a bracket 21<a> on a pivoted peg-rail 10 so as to remove the coils of yarn left on the spindles after the bobbin is doffed ; and the empty bobbins are placed on the spindles by the severing device 19. The holders for the drag washers are of stamped or cast metal and are provided with projections 2a to span the lifting-rail, projections 2b to embrace the washers, and a flange to engage the hole in the lifting rail. The lifting-rail is provided with slots 5a to allow of its longitudinal movement relative to the pokers 7 and is supported by flanges 7a on the pokers. The flyers and spindles are operated in known manner by a handle 12 and toothed quadrants 13, 14 to align the full bobbins with the pegs 9 so that they fall thereon when the support 8 is removed. The peg rail 10 is turned into the position shown in Fig. 6, so that the rod 20 slides by gravity in slots 21 in the brackets 21a and engages the yarn and removes the coils thereof from the spindles. The empty bobbins are lifted from the pegs 16 by the severing-device 19 after the flyers and spindles are aligned therewith, and, when the spindles and rails are readjusted in the normal position, the severing-device is further raised to the position shown in Fig. 6, so that it may be operated after a few turns are wound on the empty bobbins. The spindle footstep bearing preferably comprises a member 44<a> fixed in a socket 44 so that an annular space w is formed to receive lubricant which overflows into a cavity x.
