Doffing-arrangements; lifting-rails. -In flyer spinning, doubling, twisting, and like machines comprising interchangeable lifting-rails with integral spindles, supporting members 3 provided with curved slots 3<g> embracing shafts carrying geared pinions 7, 7<a> are mounted beneath the, flyers so that, when a lifting-rail 2 with a set of full bobbins is lowered thereon beside a lifting-rail 2<a> with a set of empty bobbins, as shown in Fig. 2, the pinions 7, 7<a> engage racks 16 integral with the lifting-rails and, when operated by a hand wheel, move them together with the members 3 so that the full bobbins are conveniently positioned for removal and the lifting-rail 2<a> with the empty bobbins may be raised into the spinning position, as shown in Fig. 4. After restarting, the full bobbins are replaced by empty bobbins and the pinons 7, 7<a> operated in the reverse direction so that the rail 2 is moved relatively to the member 3 until it engages the abutment 3<x> when they move together to the rear position, Fig. 2, in readiness for the next doff. The lifting-rails are made in sections and supporting members 3 with pinions 7, 7<a> are provided at the ends of each section, the lifting brackets 17 being arranged to engage the sections at their ends.
