To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Amman S'rn m and Jenn Srnnn, subjects of the of Great Britain, and residents, respectively, of Green Hill, Fit-eeton, near Keighley, in the county of York, England, and 23 i Devonshire Street, Keighley, aforesaid, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Boiling Apparatus for Spinning, Doubling, Twisting. and like lrilachines, of which the following description, having reference to the accompanying sheets of drawings, is a specification.
Our invention relates to dotting apparatus for machines known as cap spinning, doubling, twisting and like frames, and consists in an improved arrangement and construction of tie several devices for performing the dotting voperations whereby the number of movements to be performed by the operative is less than with those ofordinary construction. These improvements consist particularly in a new arrangement and construction of receptacles for receiving full bobbins and supplying empty bobbins to the spindles, as also inimprovcments relating to the tin boards or dividing plates which occupy positions between the spindles for purposes well known, these dividing plat-es being automatically moved out of position on the lowering of the spindle rail or lifter plate during or prior to the performance of the dotting operations. while our improvements also comprise other improved details of construction forming our complete dotting motion.
In order that our said invention may be readily understood. we have hereunto appended sheets of drawings illustrative thereof, to which. by figures and letters, reference is made in the following description.

One portion e" of each receptacle is in the form of a vertically disposed tube and is tor the reception of an empty bobbin, an open ing or slot a being made in the base and sides of said receptacles in order that same may be passed laterally over the spindles for the purposes hereinafter described. The lower flange of the empty bobbin y is supported by the part c of the base of the receptacle. These receptacles, as shown by Figs. 6, 7 and S, tit closely against each other the space intervening between one vertically disposed tube a and the next forming a chamber or holder for the reception of a full bobbin m S()Hl6\\"ll2tl3 as shown in broken lines by Fig. 6. A part c is cut out oft-he end of: each receptacle as shown by said Fig. 6 and the straight or regular end or surface of the neighbouring receptacle 1: extends alongside said slotted part to term the slot 2 for the purpose referred to. Extending lengthwise the frame is a shaft 72. preferably square in cross section such shaft having mounted upon it a number ot depending arms 7&1 provided with extending parts or shoes 71? these being for the purpose of supporting the tull bobbins in the manner hereinafter described. Normally these parts 7&1 occupy positions approximately midway between the series of spin dles 1. Taking through appropriate bearings m are a series of racks in operated by quadrants mfi fixed upona shaft 772. at the end of which is a lever arm m having a handle m by which it is moved. These racks m carry a plate or bar at extending lengthwise the machine and having mounted upon it plates 12 having slots n of sufficient width to pass over the necks 2 of the caps 2 but sutliciently narrow tor the heads 2 of said caps 2 to rest thereon. The bar n iscapable of being moved from the position indicated by Fig. 3 to a position where when the caps are raised as hereinafter described the plate will pass over the necks 2 and support the heads 2 while they are provided with short upwardly extending lips n for the purpose of preventing the heads 2* of the caps 2 from being easily dislodged from said holders 12 The movement of said plate a is effected by said handle m which is moved from the position indicated by Fig. 1 wherein it engages with a notch in the quadrant plate at to the position wherein said lever engages with the notch m in said plate 922 thus r 1c operative may easily tell when the correct amount of movement has been given to said plates m Also carried by the plate a by means of brackets 0 is a plate 0 extending lengthwise the machine and to this plate 0 are hinged at 0 the tread guide boards-0 and dividing plates .9, thus when. said plate a is moved away from the top rail A it carries with it the parts 11 the boards 0 and the dividing plates or tins .9, while when said tins s are automaticallv moved as hereinafter described they carry with them the said boards 0 Fixed upon the part a carrying the.dividing'plates s is a lever 25 which has a chain connection t 'extending to a bracket t fixed upon the spindle rail B. Normally, that is when the parts are in the spinning position, the chain connection I is somewhat slack, however when the spin dle rail is lowered as during dofiing operations this chain 6 becomes tight or taut and lowers said lever it thus swinging the parts 8 and 0 upon their hinge atmoving them from the position indicated by Fig. 3 into that shown by Fig. 4 wherein the plates 8 are moved entirely away from the caps 52 and spindles 1. On the rising of the spindle rail these parts either by gravity or as- 'wardly as above eta-is e the connections to ti that said places 8 are lowered or swun upon their fulcrum, and in order to allow those plates which are oppos te to the 7 mework or bearers to move as desired we term them in sections or in the nature oi a fan by which they may collapse or told when lowered and assume their normal positions as they are raised. Further than this, we may arrange the connections from the plates .9 to the litter plate 3 instead of to the spindle rail B the said plates 8 being; moved thereby as hereinbefore described. The con nection is slack enough to allow the necessary reciprocations of the litter plate 3 during spinning operations, while on the 't'urther lowering of said plate 3 during dotting operations said connection t moves said plates 8 as desired.

The actions of our improved apparatus are as followst- 7 Taking it that the full bobbins 00 have re ceived their complement of yarn and it is desired to doll or remove same from their spindles and substitute therefor a series of empty bobbins 7 the handle 71, is moved so as to withdraw the pin h from its opening and carry the shoes 71 opposite to the spindles 1 and by releasing said handle 71 these shoes are allowed to move by gravity towards said spindles 1. The spindle rail B is then raised by means of the hand wheel (2- to a position wherein the plates 11, are oppositethe necks 2 of the caps 2 this position of the spindle rail being determined by same coming into contact with an appropriate fixture on the framing C of the frame. The bar a is then advanced by the quadrants m to support the caps 2 in man-- ner hereinbet'ore described, after which the litter plate is raised to such a position that the shoes 7L occupy positions between the lower ends of the full bobbins a: and the upper ends of the'wharles l on which the shoes 72 are passed beneath the bobbins flanges, where they are held by the pin 72 taking into another opening in the framework C formed in the proper position for this purpose. The shaft 71. isthen oscillated to allow the empty bobbins to tall upon the upper ends oi the wharles 4t an d the rail a again advanced to cause the caps 2 to occupy positions vertically over the spindles 1. The spindle rail B is raised sutliciently for the spindles 1 to support said caps 2 after which said rail n is returned in proximity to the bar or beam A. The spindle rail 18 is then lowered to the spinning position and the litter 3 raised.
