Doffing-arrangements; spindle rails.-The rail 7 for the bobbin pegs 8, 9 and the supports for the footstep and lifter rails 34, 30 are mounted on a carriage 4 which can be moved horizontally by a rack - and - pinion arrangement operated by a handle on the shaft 14 for the purpose of moving the bobbin pegs towards and from the spindles, the rails being gapped at intervals to accommodate the frame 1. The lifter rail 30 is carried by pokers 6 which are raised and lowered by rack-and-pinion mechanism, the shaft 11 of the pinion 12 being operated by beart-cam mechanism in the usual way. The footstep rail 34 is carried by pokers 39, Fig. 3, arranged alternately to the pokers 6, and is pressed upwards by springs 40, the strength of the springs being sufficient to support the rail in its highest position during the spinning operation, but insufficient to support it when the lifting - rail is lowered upon it for doffing. The lifting-rail carries a loose sleeve 31 which, when lowered upon the footstep rail, raises the bobbin from off the drag washer 32. Pivoted fingers 29 carried by an adjustable slide 25 are used for supporting the bobbins during the doffing operation, and a usual form of thread-cutting device 38 is provided.
