Abstract

1358044 Elevator catch gear T MADDISON 19 April 1971 58116/70 Heading B8L A safety suspension device for arresting an elevator cage in the event of either the cage breaking away from its winding gear or the winding gear going slack, comprises two slideable latch members simultaneously movable in op - posite directions along a base platform attachable to the rooftop of the cage, between a withdrawn position and an extended position in which two protuberances at the outer ends of each latch member engage apertures in safety frame structure in the elevation shaft to arrest the cage. In normal use, the latch members are held in their withdrawn positions by a spring mechanism connected to the base platform and by two chains to shearer gear on the cage winding rope, and the two chains are kept taut by the weight of the cage causing the spring of the mechanism to be compressed to hold the latch members in their withdrawn position. Upon slackness occurring in these two chains, due to the above said events, the spring is released and moves the latch members into their cage arresting extended position.
