Abstract
1354974 Waveguide filters STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 30 Aug 1972 [2 Sept 1971] 40940/71 Heading H1W A multiple-section evanescent-mode waveguide band-pass filter has reactive loading midway between the cavities. Filters of this kind consist of a length 1 of waveguide which is dimensioned to have a cut-off frequency above the required operating frequency. A section of such waveguide presents an inductive reactance to an incident H 01 -mode wave, and if this section is terminated in an obstacle which presents a conjugate (capacitive) reactance at the operative frequency, the section will transmit energy at that frequency. The Tchebychev filter shown comprises six sections each associated with a capacitive reactance in the form of an adjustable quartz rod 3, the sections being arranged symmetrically such that l 1 = l 7 , l 2 = l 6 , l 3 = l 5 . The sections are coupled by inductive rods 7 spaced from one wall of the waveguide by a distance d which varies from section to section, again in a symmetrical manner. It is stated that the sections may, alternatively, be coupled by capacitive reactances. The theory of the filter is completely discussed in the Specification and dimensional data given.
