Abstract
1,199,780. Filters. GENERAL ELECTRIC & ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO'S Ltd. 12 July, 1968 [13 July, 1967], No. 32231/67. Heading H1W. Some of the shunt reactances forming a band-pass filter in a waveguide are provided by irises resonant at frequencies outside the passband. The filter shown comprises half-wave resonant sections formed by two sets of posts 4, 5, 6 which provide inductive reactances shunting the rectangular waveguide 1. The filter also comprises a central section 2 bounded by irises 8, 9 which are resonant at frequencies above or below the pass-band and provide shunt reactance at frequencies within the band in known manner. The effect of the irises is to increase attenuation outside the pass band. This effect may be enhanced by reducing (as shown) or enlarging the cross-section of the central waveguide section 2. In the embodiment, each iris is formed by a thick metal plate provided with a central circular aperture into which a turning screw extends.
