Abstract
1387028 Waveguide filters FERRANTI Ltd 24 April 1973 [25 April 1972] 19108/72 Heading H1W A bandstop filter for a waveguide transmission system comprises an array of identical resonant circuits. As shown, the array is made up of a number of apertured plates or irises, all the apertures having the same width a equal to the width of waveguides 18. Each resonant circuit comprises an iris 12 of height l bounded by two irises 11 of height c where l>c and c<b (the height of the waveguides 18). In addition, two end irises 13 of height m, where m is the mean of band c, forms impedance-matching elements between the array and the waveguides. The resonant circuits are tuned to a harmonic band of the desired pass band of the system, and where it is desired to attenuate more than one harmonic band, a number of arrays with different values of l are used. An iris 11 between resonators in different arrays may be stepped to provide two apertures each appropriate to the adjacent resonant circuit. Alternatively, a single aperture of constant height corresponding to the mean of the two admittances may be used. In a filter designed to attenuate 2fo and 3fo, the part effective at 2fo may be divided into two portions located one on either side of the part effective at 3fo.
