Abstract

1,129,185. Waveguide filters. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 10 June, 1966, No. 25966/66. Heading H1W. A band-pass filter for H-mode waveguides comprises a length of waveguide, Àe.g. rectangular waveguide, which is dimensioned below cut-off such that it supports only evanescent waves and means for terminating the length in a capacitative reactance which at a chosen centre frequency is the conjugate of the positive imaginary characteristic impedance of the length of waveguide. The specification explains the theory of such filters and shows that the band-pass limits are given by where the symbols have their usual meanings. The centre frequency is given by f 0 = #f 1 f 2 . Fig. 1 shows a three-section filter in which the capacitances are provided by screws 4. In a modification of this construction (Fig. 6, not shown), the capacitances, are provided by transverse ridges. In a modified method of realization (Fig. 7, not shown), the capacitance is provided by an appropriate length (11) of short-circuited standard (propagating) waveguide joined to the end of the length (10) of cut-off waveguide. The filter section thus formed is coupled to a standard dominant mode waveguide as a shunt or series stub (Figs. 9, 10, not shown).
