Abstract

709,509. High frequency electric fibers. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Nov. 7, 1952 [Dec. 1, 1951], No. 28061/52. Class 40 (8) A band pass filter comprises a number of cavity resonators, .means coupling adjacent resonators, and further means coupling alternate resonators. Tn the construction shown an input coupling 13 is connected to a resonator 1 at the beginning of a chain 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, all coupled in succession by apertures, the first of which is indicated at 12. Resonators 1 and 3 are also coupled by lines 17 and 18 and resonators 3 and 5 by lines 19 and 20. Adjusting slugs 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 can be provided in the resonators Without the coupling lines 17, 18, 19 and 20 the filter would only have a gradual cut off in its characteristic. These pairs of lines are arranged so that one line gives a capacitative coupling and the other an inductive coupling. Further at a particular frequency current injected into a resonator from these lines is 180 degrees out of phase with respect to current passing through each resonator in turn from aperture to aperture. A zero is thus produced in the filter characteristic and, by adjusting one of these to each end of the pass band, a sharper cut-off can then be obtained.
