Abstract
1,236,336. Delay equalizers. MARCONI CO. Ltd. 11 Nov., 1969 [21 Feb., 1969], No. 9526/69. Heading H1W. A group delay equalizer is formed by a cruciform waveguide structure 1, 2, 3, 4, the ends 1 and 3 being open, the other two ends being closed to form resonant cavities with strip conductor irises (6 and 7, Fig. 1, not shown) and a directional coupler formed by a 45 degree slab 5 of dielectric material arranged in the common volume of intersection of the two waveguide arms. As shown, slab 5 divides the input energy between the two resonators, and divides the reflected energy from the two resonators between the input and output open ends; the waves suffer a 90 degree phase change upon reflection by the slab 5, and a phase change #, dependent upon frequency, upon reflection by a resonant cavity, to provide on output E + G in the output guide 3, while the two waves H and I reflected into the input guide 1 are 180 degrees out of phase and cancel one another out.
