1354101 Dry shavers GILLETTE INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 Aug 1971 [14 Aug 1970 12 March 1971] 39377/70 and 6714/71 Heading B4B [Also in Division H2] An electrically-operated dry shaver comprises a cutter 13, 14 connected to a drive member 7, 10 operated by a battery-powered motor 4 which is supported in a frame 2 enclosed by a metal casing 1, an apertured shear plate 16 for engagement with the cutter being mounted in a head casing 17 removably secured to the frame. The cutter is releasably secured to the drive member 7, 10 via a split-pin connection 11, the drive member being mounted on leaf springs 8. The cutter is reciprocated by means of an eccentric 6, 6a rotated by the motor 4; the motor is mounted in resilient members 5 provided in the frame. A long hair trimmer is provided on the head casing 17 and comprises a fixed shear plate 21 and a reciprocable cutter 22, the latter being secured to a stud 26 adapted to be engaged or disengaged with a drive arm 10b, by means of a finger piece 23; the finger piece is locked in each position by means of a spring-loaded button 25. The batteries 3 are rechargeable and connected to the motor 4 via a three-position switch 34; in one position, the batteries are connected directly to the motor for shaving, in a second position, the motor is open-circuited and the batteries connected to terminals 27, 28 which may then be plugged into a charging unit, Figs. 7, 8 and 9 (not shown) and, in the third position the motor is connected directly to the terminals so that the latter may be connected to a dry battery, if required. In a modification, the rechargeable batteries may be replaced by dry batteries, the easing then being provided with a suitable opening therefor and the three-way switch replaced by a simple on-off switch.
