Abstract
1353800 Drying motor-compressor units DANFOSS AS 5 May 1971 [5 May 1970] 13330/71 Heading F4G To remove moisture from motor-compressor units 6 each secured in an open casing 5 having one end open, drying air under pressure is directed into the annular gap between the unit 6 and the casing 5 at a point which moves around the gap, or simultaneously or successively at several points spaced around the gap, the drying air emerging from the gap at a different point or points. In an embodiment, Fig. 1, the casings 5 are conveyed on a moving belt 1 through a duct 4 into which air is passed by nozzles 8 in the lower wall of a pressure chamber 7 supplied with air via a heater 14 by a multistage blower 13. Most (95%) of the air is drawn from the duct 4 through a slot 10 (or spaced orifices) in the lower wall of the duct 4 into a vacuum chamber 9, for recirculation. The nozzles 8 are arranged singly or in groups alternately on each side of the duct 4. Some of the air is discharged from the duct 4 through conduits 15 to atmosphere, and fresh air is admitted at 16. Thermal lagging 11 is provided. In Fig. 3, in which four ducts 4 (only two shown) are arranged in parallel, the rollers 2 are driven by a common shaft 20, and the pressure and vacuum chambers 7 and 9 have common manifolds 21 and connections 22. The air is supplied to the pressure chambers at a temperature of 170 C., and a pressure differential of 1300 mm. water column is maintained between pressure and vacuum chambers 7 and 9, the dew point being -40 C. In another embodiment, the casing 5 is placed on the bottom of a lagged chamber and hot air is supplied from above to the annular gap by means of a single air nozzle mounted near the periphery of a horizontal plate which is rotated by means of a hollow shaft through which air is supplied to the nozzle. The air is drawn from the chamber through orifices in the bottom of the chamber to a vacuum chamber.
