Abstract

1353503 Moulding bottle caps METALLKAPSELFABRIK LOOS & CO GmbH 13 Sept 1971 [25 Nov 1970] 42589/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] A bottle cap is made by stretching a plastics film in only one direction, connecting opposite edges of the film or a portion cut from it to form a cylindrical or frusto-conical blank which, before being fitted to a bottle is heat shrunk on to a shaping mandrel to form a frusto-conical cap 1 in which the seam 3 lies parallel to the cap axis and the stretching direction is oriented circumferentially around the cap. The cap may be heat shrunk further to fit it on to a bottle neck. An inwardly projecting rim 2 at the top of the cap formed from a portion of the blank extending beyond the mandrel and a disc 17 or 18 may be stuck to the inside or outside of the cap rim to close the aperture 16. Alternatively the aperture is closed by a longer portion of the tube which is folded over the end of the mandrel and held together by adhesive and embossed. Lines of perforations 8, 9 forming a tear strip 7 and a line of perforations 10 are formed while the cap is on the mandrel, and retractable projections on the mandrel form an encircling projecting rib or separate projections 5. A stopper 26 may be stuck inside the cap.
