Abstract

1351234 Nitriding steel NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 8 June 1971 [21 July 1970 31 Aug 1970] 19407/71 Heading C7U The workpiece is treated at 450‹ - 650‹ C in a nitriding or carbonitriding gas containing 0À1 to 10% by volume of a gas containing elemental oxygen, preferred values being 0À5 to 5% of air or 0À1 to 1% of oxygen. Exemplified compositions are up to 30% each of ammonia, carbon monoxide and nitrogen with 5-10% of air, and up to 30% each of ammonia and carbon monoxide with 1 to 2% of oxygen and at least 38% of nitrogen. The furnace lining and workpiece holder may be coated with a mixture of sodium silicate and refractory clay.
