Abstract

1350244 Knitting machines FOUQUET-WERK FRAUZ & PLANCK 29 June 1971 [2 July 1970] 30315/71 Heading D1C In a circular multifeed knitting machine, a selector cylinder 13 coaxial with the needle carrier 1 carries selector jacks 16 coupled to needle control means 10, at least some jacks 16 having selectively movable elements 27 at different levels, all elements 27 being selected by a pattern carrier 80 at a selection position and respectively acted on by cam means 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37 at each of the knitting stations so as to move selected jacks and hence their associated needles between idling and knitting position, erase means being provided for returning the elements to their unselected position. A jack 3 is pivoted to each needle 2 and is swingable between a non-knitting position engaging a groove 4 and a knitting position with its butt 5 engaging cam track 6. Needles 2 have butts 8 to engage a cam track 7. The lower ends of jacks 3 are engaged between abutments 11 on members 10 which are guided in tricks in a disc 12 carried on a cylinder 13 mounted on drive ring 14 which rotates with cylinder 1. Members 16 longitudinally slidable in grooves in cylinder 13 are held by ring spring 18 and by cam parts 19. Cam parts 20, 21 at each knitting station are aligned with the jacks respectively in their lifted and lower positions and when pushed in cause these aligned jacks to be pushed in to make their associated needles are inoperative. Jacks 3 and members 10 are restored to normal position by cam 22. Pins 27 slide in grooves 26 in jacks 16 and are held by crosspiece 28 being associated with ring grooves in cylinder 13 having slanting lower edges 29. Butts 16" on members 16 co-operate with cam 30 which, before reselection pulls members 16 down so that pins 27 are pushed back to unselected position. Slidable members 32-37 aligned with pins 27 are each associated with a different knitting station and select their aligned pins 27 according to the pattern already selected to be knitted at that station e.g. by a band or tape 80 carried on a drum whose axis is parallel to that of cylinder 13 and which is driven in synchronism therewith. The tape 80 has tracks 32'-37' with holes corresponding to the pattern there being grooves in the drum so that pins 27 can pass through these holes and remain undisturbed. Pins engaging parts of the tape without holes are moved forward so that they are not engaged by their associated cams 32-37. Jacks 16 without pins 27 have pins 38 lifted by associated jack lifters 38' at knitting stations and these needles are not selected for patterning selection for interlock, 1:1 and 1:2 rib knitting is possible. This patterning arrangement can be used on the dial of a cylinder and dial knitting machine. In another arrangement Fig. 7 (not shown) pairs of pins are used so as to double the patterning possibilities for a given number of levels.
