1329171 Knitting machines E MAYER [trading as MAYER & CIE] 7 June 1971 [9 June 1970] 19203/71 Heading D1C A multi-system circular knitting machine has, at each system, a pin drum acting through pattern slides 12 on swingable selectors 27 associated with tiltable and longitudinally displaceable needle jacks 18, the length of each cam system associated with each needle system being only the length of the knitting part of the knitting system, the selecting arrangement at least partly overlapping an adjacent system and a cam being provided in every system for returing needle jacks to their initial position for selection in the next system. Needle butts 131 of needles 13 are guided by cam parts 15, 16, 17 at each station A, B, C, D, &c. Needle jack cam 11 has three tracks engaged by driving out butt 181, retraction butt 182 and tilting butt 183 of jacks 18. Each track for butts 183 includes a resiliently mounted cam 22. Selectors 27 also lie in the tracks 252 and have vertically staggered butts 273 at different positions corresponding to pattern slides 12. A selector 27 not influenced by a slide 12 remains in working position and the associated jack 18 also remains in working position with its butt 181 in reach of cam part 19 so that it is slid upwardly to engage the -corresponding needle 13 so that its butt 13 is guided by cam parts 14 to knit. Butt 183 engages came 167 which prevents tilting of the jack. If a selector 27 is engaged by a slide 12 and pivoted in about its end 272 its corresponding jack 18 is tilted and its butt 183 engages guide track 28 and butt 181 is disengaged from cam 19 so that the jack and hence its corresponding needle is not raised and the needle butt 131 remains in engagement with cam 16. Butt 183 is engaged by cam 22 to return it to its working position.
