929,512. Knitting-machines. WILDMAN JACQUARD CO. May 1, 1961 [May 6, 1960], No. 15646/61. Class 74 (2). Jaquard mechanism is provided in a cylinder and dial machine in which each jack raising lever 38 is adapted to engage two adjacent jacks 14 and can be operated twice before each knitting station to select both of the corresponding needles 12 in turn. For this purpose one jack of each pair has a butt 15 at a low level and the other jack has a butt 15<SP>1</SP> at a high level. When the lever 38 is operated at the first selection both the jacks 14 are raised whereafter the high level butt jack is immediately lowered by its butt engaging a lowering cam 58 whereas the low level butt jack passes above cam 53. Subsequently the lever 38 may be operated again when the high level butt jack is again raised to cause its butt to engage an upthrow cam 59 at the same time as the low level butt jack is further raised by cam 54. During patterning, gate cam 52, normally raising the needles by engaging their knitting butts, is lowered out of operation so that only the selected needles raised by the jacks elevated by cams 54, 59 are engaged and cleared by clearing cam 51, and subsequently take yarn and knit under stitch cam 45. The selected jacks are meanwhile lowered by cams 55, 60. To enable two selections to be made before each knitting station the jacquard drum 24 is given two movements or the drum is continuously advanced but in either case two rows of perforations are required in the strip 27 to permit the selection of the needles.
