1278894 Knitting-machines STIBBE MACHINERY Ltd 19 April 1971 [30 April 1970] 20801/70 Heading D1C A circular multi-feed machine having axially movable pivoted jacks 14 and arranged so that needles knit at some feeds only of groups of feeds to yield multi-coloured patterns, includes a jack cam system designed to reduce the number of patterning units required. Jack 14, fulcrummed at 14d, is engaged by the forked upper end 13a of pivoted selector jack 13. Pattern units 23/PU deflect the selectors to swing jack butt 14a out of the cam path. A fixed insert 21 behind the jack includes a butt 21c to enagage butt 14c and lock the jack when necessary. The cam systems are identical for each section and include raising and lowering cams 20, 19; draw-out cams 24 for the fork 13a; manually settable lowering cams 28, and depressor cams 27. The identical sections permit setting-up for knitting jacquard or "blister" patterns of the desired number of colours. As set out for three-colour jacquard, patterning units are provided before the two sections A, B and cam 28 in section C is lowered. Jacks not depressed by PU<SP>1</SP> rise at cam 20- raising corresponding needles-and are lowered at 19. Butts 14a pass in front of cam 27 and are depressed to pass behind raise cams 20 at section B and similarly at C. In section C, however, they are lowered by cam 28 so that having been pulled out by cam 24 they can be reselected at the following section. Jacks depressed by PU<SP>1</SP> are pushed out by cam 24 acting on the forks 13a so that a reselection for knitting in section B occurs at PU<SP>2</SP>. Needles knitting in B avoid knitting at C similarly to those knitting in A. Jacks unselected at either PU are forced out by cam 24 in section B and thereby knit in section C. To knit a "blister" fabric a PU<SP>1</SP> is provided at the first section only; cam 27 of the first section and cam 28 of the third are lowered (see Fig. 4 not shown). Selected needles knit at the first two sections, but not at the third. Lowered cam 27 ensures that all the remaining needles knit at the third section.
