Abstract

1349651 Track circuit M L ENG (PLYMOUTH) Ltd 16 Dec 1971 [21 Dec 1970] 60626/70 Heading B7N In a track circuit arrangement for continuous track carrying return traction current having a fundamental frequency or ripple frequency F, the track circuit transmitter switches periodically between two frequencies, the first of which coincides with a harmonic of the fundamental F and the second is spaced from the first by a frequency gap NF + (F/2) where N is an integer and the track circuit receiver actuates its track relay in response to reception of at least one of the signals. Should the traction current frequency drift from its nominal value F at least the first signal is transmitted to the receiver without interference, if it remains at the nominal frequency then at least the second signal which is disposed between two harmonics reaches the receiver free of interference. Transmitter 4 feeds two track sections B1, B2 with a signal alternating between frequencies f3, f4 and receivers 7, 8, at the other ends of the sections, each include two channels tuned respectively to f3 and f4. Reception of either or both signals operates the associated track relay. Adjacent pairs of sections operate at different frequencies and each transmitter forms a low impedance shunt to signals transmitted from adjacent sections. The track signals can be modulated for transmission of information to trains.
