Abstract

1,206,811. Track signalling. BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD. 13 Nov., 1968 [15 Jan., 1968], No. 2062/68. Heading B7N. [Also in Division H4] In a track communication system for moving trains in which information is transmitted to or received from a train by induction between apparatus on the train and a pair of insulated conductors A, B extending along the track, the conductors are provided with metallic sheaths 3 which do not interfere substantially with the induction process and which are divided into sections, insulated from each other, with corresponding sheath sections of each cable being short circuited by straps 4. The arrangement maintains the line attenuation and characteristic impedance constant under varying ground conditions. Only one cable sheath may be divided, Fig. 7 (not shown), and where the circuit comprises one insulated cable and a rail of the track the sheath sections of the cable are short circuited to the rail.
