Abstract

1348872 Spinning machine; belt tensioner HAMEL GmbH 10 Feb 1972 [2 March 1971] 6218/72 Heading DID [Also in Division F2] A spinning and-twisting machine has means for adjusting the tension of its spindle drive belt including a belt drive pulley mounted on a movable carriage, a carriage-moving device and a pressure measuring device located between the carriage and the moving device to indicate belt tension. As shown, Fig. 1, spindles 84 are rotated by belt 26 and belt pulley 24 is mounted, with its driving motor 20, on a carriage 18 slidable on shafts 14, 14'. Gear 30 is rotatably mounted on frame member 28. Threaded rod 32 is screwed into gear 30 and is prevented from turning by spring 40 on carriage 18. Rod end 36 abuts piston 44 slidable in a cylinder 46 containing fluid, e.g. oil, and connected to gauge 50. When belt 26 stretches, pressure in cylinder 46 drops and gauge needle 54 pivots towards electrical contact 52. The engagement of the needle and contact 52 starts motor 58 to slide carriage 18, via gears 60, 30, rod 32 and piston 44, to tension the belt. As the tension increases needle 54 pivots towards and engages contact 52' to stop motor 58. Motor 20 and the belt pulley, connected by V belts, may be mounted (Fig. 2, not shown) on separate slidable carriages connected by a threaded rod to adjust V-belt tension. Alternatively (Fig. 3, not shown) the gauge includes a contact to operate a visual and/or aural warning device to indicate belt slackening, and includes contacts to switch motor 20 on and off, and the rod 32 is rotated manually to adjust belt tension.
