Description
r 2296553 TITLE: A UNIT CONSISTING OF A MACHINE AND A MOTOR THIS INVENTION
RELATES TO a unit consisting of a machine disposed on a baseplate and a motor driving the machine by way of belts, the motor being rigidly connected to means carrying the same, means being provided for adjusting and fixing the radial distance between the motor and the machine.
Centrifugal pumps used more particularly to convey waste water are frequently used in an arrangement of the above kind. Two different motor mounting variants have hitherto been used for the purpose.
In a first construction, the motor was disposed on the centrifugal pump bearing support, being carried by a plate connected thereto. Vertical adjustment and fixing of this arrangement was by means of screw bolts provided at the four corners of the plate and fixed on the centrifugal pump bearing support. Since the screw bolts had to take the motor weight and additional forces caused by the belt drive, they had to be of a correspondingly stable construction. Adjustment of the arrangement was complex.
The second of the known constructions was even more complex. In this the motor was disposed on a separate motor block which together with the centrifugal pump was fixed on a baseplate larger than the above-described variant. Here again four supporting screw bolts were used for vertical adjustment.
The vertical adjustment of the motor and adjustment of the radial distance between the centrifugal pump and the 2 motor are necessary for a number of reasons. When V-belts have to be f itted and removed, and belt tension established and adjusted, the distance between the centrifugal pump and motor belt pulleys in alignment with one another frequently have to be changed. In addition, the adjustability of the distance allows adjustment to different transmission ratios and enables production tolerances to be taken up.
A belt guard covering the belt is also specified for safety reasons in all belt drives.
The object of the invention is to provide a unit of the above type which, while meeting the said functions and requirements, provides a reduction of the complexity required for adjustability of the belt drive and simplification of the adjustment itself.
According to the invention, in a unit of the generic type referred to, this is achieved by a plate which is fixed on the end face of the motor and which is guided for displacement on a motor carrier rigidly connected to the baseplate, means being provided for adjustment of the position of the plate and means for its releasable fixing on the motor carrier.
The subclaims indicate a number of advantageous aspects of the invention.
The invention is explained in detail with reference to one exemplified embodiment and the drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a unit according to the invention; 3 Fig. 2 is a plan view of an enlarged-scale detail of the unit shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a sectional view of a detail of a mounting and adjusting arrangement of the unit; and Fig. 4 shows an alternative to the detail of Figure The unit is formed by a centrifugal pump 1 and an electric motor 2, which are interconnected by a plurality of V-belts 3, shown in simplified form here. The centrifugal pump 1 has a belt pulley 4 and the electric motor 2 a belt pulley 5 to accommodate the V-belts 3.
Whereas the centrifugal pump 1 is fixed on a baseplate 6, the electric motor 2 is disposed on a motor carrier 7. The latter has a belt guard 8 welded to the baseplate 6. This has the advantage of greater stability compared with any other possible type of mounting by means of a screw connection.
A plate 9 to which the electric motor 2 is rigidly screwed is used for adjustable mounting of the electric motor 2 on the carrier 7. The height of the plate 9 can be adjusted after a number of screws 10 passing through slots in the carriers 7 have been released.
Two suspended screw rods 12 fixed on the cover plate 11 of the motor carrier 7 are used for the vertical adjustment. Drilled webs 13 disposed on the plate 9 are in register with the screw rods 12 and slide on the latter. Adjusting nuts (not shown) are disposed beneath the webs and their rotation produces vertical adjustment of the plate 9.
4 After adjustment of the correct belt tension, the plate 9 is rigidly connected to the motor carrier 7 by tightening the nuts on the screws 10. The screw rods 12 are thus destressed, and therefore need not take the forces caused by the weight of the electric motor 2 and the belt drive during operation. They form an additional security against the belt drive being unintentionally released.
The above-mentioned screw rods 12 may be devised in various ways. Alternatively, screws 14 can be used. Figs. 3 and 4 show various alternatives from a number of possible constructions.
In the construction shown in Fig. 3, a screw 14 is used, the head of which bears on the cover plate 11. The screw 14 passes through a hole 15 in the cover plate 11 and its screwthread engages in a tapped hole 16 in the web 13. Depending on the direction of rotation of the screw 14, the web and, with it, the plate 9 is moved towards or away from the cover plate 11.
The construction shown in Fig. 4 with a screw rod 12 illustrates a number of alternatives. The screw rod 12 passing through a hole 15 in the cover plate 11 and a hole 17 in the web 13 is enclosed by a nut 18 bearing on the cover plate 11 and by a nut 19 bearing against the underside of the web 13. One of the two nuts 18 or 19 can be rigidly connected, e.g. by welding, to the surface of the cover plate 11 or web 13 contacted by it. Vertical adjustment of the web 13 and of the plate 9 is possible by turning a movable nut 18 or 19.
Figs. 3 and 4 each show one screw 14 or screw rod 12, and this may be quite adequate for the required purpose, with a central arrangement. The use of a plurality of screws or screw rods, the points of application of which must be adapted to local conditions, is also within the scope of the invention. Preferably, two screws 14 or screw rods 12 are used, their locations being visible from Fig. 2.
The invention also covers a standing arrangement of the screws or screw rods instead of the suspended arrangement. Similarly, quite different designs and elements can be used for guiding and adjusting the plate 9. One of the other possible constructions is formed by a motor carrier 7 welded to the baseplate 6.
Finally, other means than the screws 10 can be used for fixing the plates 11. For example, clamping jaws have the advantage that there is no need for the slots required for screw fastening. Also, unlike the exemplified embodiment, the electric motor 2 can also be disposed on the side of the centrifugal pump 1, thus shortening the overall length of the unit.
